Our core team is made up of:
Ben Deacon
Ben has been skiing, climbing and sailing since he was a youngster, travelling the colder and more windswept corners of the world, he has since settled with his family in Sydney cutting, filming and producing documentaries, even winning a Logie for a particularly grim film about East Timor.
One day, while sailing, he wondered, “If you can sail on water, then surely you can sail on snow and ice?” Five years later, the search for the answer to this question has led him to the frozen rivers of Northern Quebec, across Greenland’s Icecap, and to seedy bars in Jiangsu province, China.
His real purpose in all of this searching was to collect people, and now with a truly formidable team of the world’s most creative engineers and the world’s most visionary outdoor athletes, he feels that the really interesting stuff is still to come!Pat Spiers
Pat is a dedicated adventurer and teacher. Pat has a long history of backcountry skiing, climbing and expeditioning around the world’s more remote mountains and icecaps. His all-round talents extend to endurance kiting on snow and on water. In between adventures Pat is a family man and works as a School teacher at the Field of Mars Environmental education centre. He is an original, independent thinker and his critical eye for detail is invaluable for the Icebird expedition.
Dave Goldie
Dave is a unique fellow, in addition to his significant levels of experience in adventure fields as diverse as Cave diving, Backcountry skiing and Climbing, Dave is also an inventor and Special Effects whiz. His eye for technical detail and yen for grand but unconventional styles of adventure made him a natural for the Kitesled team
